Don't Just Tell Them... Show Them!

Consider sharing Jesus with someone this week. In my articles, I usually talk about filling myself up with Christ's joy and love so that others can see the difference in my life. Then they will want what I have. But maybe the best way to convince them what a difference Christ has made in MY life is for me to somehow make a difference in THEIR lives. Maybe I should just forget trying to convince everyone else how much Christ loves ME. I should be trying to convince everyone else how much Christ loves THEM.

Instead of trying to make myself the center of attention when I witness, Christ should be the center of attention. What would Christ do to witness to others? Christ would meet them at their point of need. If they have a need, offer to pray for that need. And if you have an opportunity to meet that need, then fill it. If their car breaks down, offer them a ride. If they are sick, offer to baby-sit their kids so they can rest. If they need comforted, be as thoughtful and as considerate as possible. If they are lonely, be a friend. In other words, be there for them.

We demonstrate our love for Jesus by showing others the same love and concern that we would show to Him. Jesus describes how he expects to be treated. "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." (Mt 25:35- 36)

Let Jesus be the center of attention first. Show others that someone (Jesus) loves them, since they are more interested in hearing that someone loves them than they are in hearing that someone loves you.

When they start to believe that someone loves them, tell them more about Jesus. After all, the Bible is HIS story. Tell them that Jesus loves them enough that He died on the cross (and rose again) for them and He will forgive their sins, if they will turn away from their sins. Then bring yourself into the story. Tell them how you believe that Jesus forgives your sins because He loves you. Tell them how much Christ's love has changed your life. Tell them, in fact, Christ's love has changed your life so much that you have been showing your love for Christ by demonstrating Christ's love to them.
