Power Players & Thrill Seekers

"Feel the power of the New Age Movement. Use the power of your imagination to shape the world into what you want it to be." What is wrong with focusing your mind on a little light being reflected by a cute little crystal to call on your kindly spirit guide? "...Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." (2 Cor 11:14) But there is no light to be found in New Age wisdom. Only darkness. And demonic power.

Looking for power? Looking for thrills? Do you expect it all right now? Consider this. "... 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.' Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:5-7)

Notice the progression of events: "Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time." First, "Humble yourselves". Simply be honest. Acknowledge God's divine nature: we are lacking, but God is all sufficient. We lived in darkness, until the light of the world, Jesus, shined in our lives.

Secondly, "under God's mighty hand" means that everything is under God. He is all powerful. Our fate lies in His hands. Will His power, the weight of His mighty hand, ultimately crush you due to your disobedience? Or will you find shelter and protection, while resting under God's mighty hand?

Thirdly, "that He may lift you up" points out that once we have admitted our weakness (our sin) and our need for the cleansing power of Jesus' blood, it is God who lifts us up. We cannot do it by ourselves. God gives us strength.

Finally, "in due time" is one more reminder that God is the one who is truly in charge. Accept God's timing. Quit worrying about trying to manipulate and control everything. Put God in the driver's seat. Humble yourselves, realizing God's power, and He will see to your needs when and how He thinks best. "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun." (Psalm 37:5-6) Now that is real power! And that is a thrill that will last forever!
